Invisalign Clear Aligners Q & A

What Is Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign is a method of straightening teeth without the use of traditional dental braces. Instead, thermoplastic aligners gently help to guide teeth into the proper place. Unlike braces, with Invisalign, you can eat and drink whatever you want. Additionally, you can care for your teeth like you normally would because the trays can be removed at any time. Because the Invisalign aligners are clear, they are less noticeable than braces.

How Do Invisalign Clear Aligners Work?

Invisalign treatment typically takes about 12 months, depending on the severity of your teeth. At your first appointment with your dentist, they will take an impression of your mouth and then supply you with a personalized aligner tray. Every two weeks, you will receive a new tray to wear that will gradually move your teeth closer to the desired position. While you can remove the trays while eating, you should wear them for at least 20 to 22 hours per day for maximum effectiveness.

Who Qualifies for Invisalign Treatment?

Many people qualify for the quick and efficient Invisalign treatment. Typically, if you have less than two millimeters of spacing or crowding per arch, minimal rotation of your teeth, and less than 1.5 millimeters of dental expansion needed for each arch, you are eligible. However, if you have a severe bite, overcrowding, or jaw alignment issues, you might have to choose a different plan of treatment to straighten your teeth. Some patients require a procedure to create space between the teeth, while Others need attachments put on the teeth to help them move easier.

What Happens After Invisalign Treatment?

After you are done wearing your Invisalign trays, you may have to wear a retainer at night to prevent your teeth from shifting. This retainer will be custom fitted to your new smile to keep it precisely as it was the day you removed your final tray.
